Who is this course for?

The course is designed for people that want to gain the knowledge and skills to understand the mandatory work health and safety legislative requirements prior to undertaking construction work. The program requires the individual to demonstrate personal awareness and knowledge of health and safety legislative requirements in order to work safely and prevent injury or harm to self and others. This course is also known as White Card training.

This course is mandatory for anyone wanting to work in the construction industry, Traffic Management Industry or where a workplace maybe considered high-risk. This training product can be used for Credit Transfer into qualifications that allow the unit as an imported elective in their packaging rules. Upon successful completion of this training program, Safe Work NSW issue a White Card. The White Card should be carried by each individual whilst working.

What qualification will I receive?

The training program includes a nationally recognised unit of competency, CPCCWHS1001 – Prepare to work safely in the construction industry- Statement of Attainment. Successful participants will be lodged with NSW Safe Work who will coordinate the issue of a White Card. This qualification does not expire, however a refresher every 3-years is recommended.

  • How to identify health and safety legislative requirements of construction work
  • How to identify construction hazards and risk control measures
  • How to identify health and safety communication and reporting processes
  • How to identify incident and emergency response procedures
  • The training involves pre-reading materials which are completed online before attending class.The classroom activities includes group discussions, practical demonstrations, simulated scenarios.
  • Practical training includes monitoring how students deal with emergency situations and incidents.
  • Students are assessed on their knowledge demonstrated by completing a theory workbook or online course.
  • Students are assessed on their skills by demonstrating their practical ability to use initial response equipment.
  • Assessors complete observations of student’s skills and engagement during classroom activities.

Eligibility and Entry Requirements

  • All candidates must supply a Unique Student Identifier (USI). Available at www.usi.gov.au
  • All candidates must bean Australian Citizen, permanent resident, NZ citizen, or a humanitarian visa holder
  • All candidates must provide 100 points of Identification
  • All candidates must be between 17-24 to be eligible for fee-free training.

How is the course delivered?

The course is delivered in a classroom face-to-face. It includes training ,knowledge tests, assessment tasks and simulated activities.
